No invite from the gatekeeping fashion queen, Anna Wintour, this year? Not to worry. We’ve got you covered with everything you need to know to celebrate the largest and most exclusive charity event of the year like a normie. According to Vogue, “The 2024 Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, titled ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ will feature approximately 250 items drawn from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, many of which have rarely been seen in public before.”

The exhibition is designed to cover three main “zones”: Land, Sea, and Sky. Andrew Bolton, who is in charge of the Costume Institute, said, “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.” Despite the “Sleeping Beauties” theme and three “zones,” the official dress code for those attending is actually “The Garden of Time” and is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s short story written in 1962, which we’re sure will be interpreted in countless ways by Hollywood’s stylists attempting to stand out and make a statement. Feeling confused yet? Hosted by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, we can expect to see them and other A-list celebs dressed in florals and botanical looks for the most part.

Although, I must say that when I first saw the theme for this year’s Met Gala, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” I was excited at the idea of seeing our favorite celebrities in the gown equivalent of a nap dress. Now, I realize this is much too literal for someone like Anna Wintour. She couldn’t possibly be so simple-minded! However, for those of us watching the red carpet from the comfort of our couches, cozy mocktail in hand, a “Sleeping Beauty” theme does sound alluring. Add to that a garden-inspired dress code, and we’re feeling like this evening is going to be full of Evie-coded, ultra-feminine outfits.

Whether you’re attending a Met Gala red carpet watch party (we see you, fashion girlies) or you’re simply planning on watching the highlights via social media, we’re here to help you celebrate the occasion like the normie you are. Here are 59 pieces we’re loving that embody the ever-elusive three themes (Sleeping Beauties, land, sea, and sky, and The Garden of Time) for the night.
